Best of 2017

As much as I try to stay in the present moment, there's a lot to be gained from looking back.

The New Year seems as good a time as any to look back, so I've taken the opportunity to select 12 of my favourite photos from 2017.

At the start of the year, my friend, Jamie Paddock (Jamie Chance Travels), inspired me to start posting my photos online.  Here’s a photograph I took of the Hiscox office in York on a lunch time wander around York with Jamie in February.

2. Sprin Sprung

How good is spring?  When the weather starts warming up and the plants start brightening up!

3. Garrowby Hill Sunset

Another shot from spring.  I've drove up and down Garrowby Hill a fair few times and always thought it would make a nice sunset location.  I stopped by and hung around waiting for the sun to set on the way back from a surf trip to get this shot.

4. Tour De Yorkshire, Cote De Lofthouse

Looking back, April was a busy month; this is the third image from April!  This was a super busy day too: I started in Boston Spa for the women's race before hearing out to this climb, where I had to cycle the last few miles.  It was more than worth the effort to get this shot.

5. Relax

In May, I went with my family to stay in Goathland.  This is my mum enjoying a well-earned G&T whilst she watches the sun go down.

6. To have and to hold

In July my brother and sister-in-law tied the knot.  This was one of my favourite images from the day.

7. Connor Swift

I always love playing with lighting when taking photos and was really happy with how this one of Connor Swift emerging from a tree-covered descent during the Yorkshire Regional Championships came out.

8. The Sound of Music

I haven't shot an awful lot of gigs this year, but when I do, I try and go for slightly different angles and interpretations.  I really love how this one came out; I've not properly put an overlay one it, but think it probably conforms with the Golden Ratio rules, which may be why I like it.

9. East Coast Gold

What this shot lacks in quality of surf and surfing, it makes up for in mood!

10. Big surf!

In contrast to the last image, this isn't my best technical image, but it captures surf the East Coast of England that many don't know exists, which Jesse Davies putting himself where most men would dare not.

11. Futures Fins

These are my Futures John John Florence fins.  They're so photogenic.

12. The Joy of Cyclocross

By the time it gets to December, I usually expect to have already taken my favourite photo, however, at the Cyclocross National Trophy event in Bradford, it started snowing, which was oh so good for photos.  This was one of my favourites: despite the snow, mud and freezing temperatures, everyone was still loving it.
